Tahoe Truckee True

Formerly Keep Squaw True
Ski resort conglomerate Alterra Mountain Company has proposed to remake Tahoe with development of a size, scale, and scope the region has never seen—including acres of high-rise condo hotels, a roller coaster, and a 90,000 square-foot indoor waterpark that would be wide as a Walmart and nearly three times as tall.
New development would take 25 years to construct.
It would add thousands of car trips to Tahoe’s crowded roads.
It would cloud Lake Tahoe’s famed clarity.
And it would put public safety at risk—in the event of a wildfire, it would take more than ten hours to evacuate Squaw Valley.
In order to ensure a better outcome, Sierra Watch launched the Tahoe Truckee True movement (formerly Keep Squaw True).
We’ve recruited thousands of volunteers. We’ve engaged experts and planners.
And we’ve challenged the development approvals in court.
So far, it’s working. In the eight years since Alterra and their parent company, KSL Capital Partners, first proposed to remake Squaw Valley, nothing has been built. What’s been built, instead, is a movement—overwhelming support to protect Squaw Valley and the entire North Lake Tahoe / Truckee Region.
The goal, of course, is not just to delay development. It’s to bring people together to secure a great outcome—a vision for Squaw Valley that’s worthy of Tahoe and everything we love about our Sierra Nevada.
Success will depend on individuals and families who join us in standing up for our mountain values.
